چکیده

Dirofilariasis of animals and humans is a disease caused by nematodes the genus Dirofilaria (Railliet et Henry, 1911). The role wild predators, particularly red fox (Vulpes vulpes) (Linnaeus, 1758) in distribution pathogen world remains unclear. We studied occurrence immitis (Leidy, 1856) population fox. Twenty-seven foxes were examined during winter hunting season 2019–2020 Dergachi district, Kharkiv region Ukraine. All 27 older than 1.5–2 years old, 5 them (18.5 %) 4–5 old. was found 22.2 % foxes. intensity infection ranged from 2 to 4 specimens per host. In four (66.7 infected hosts), same number male female detected, while two (33.3 had each 1 females D. immitis. length males (7 specimens) 13.96 ± 0.29 cm (9 19.58 0.55 cm. Prevalence with presumably depends on their habitat presence mosquitos (vectors nematode) these areas.

Chemical immobilization of red foxes (Vulpes vulpes).

Red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) were immobilized with one of the following drug combinations: ketamine/xylazine (n = 22), ketamine/promazine (n = 35), ketamine/midazolam (n = 13), or tiletamine/zolazepam (n = 22). Foxes given ketamine/xylazine had the shortest induction and longest recovery times relative to other drug combinations, whereas foxes given ketamine/midazolam had the longest induction tim...

Predation by Red Foxes (Vulpes vulpes) at an Outdoor Piggery

Outdoor pig operations are an alternative to intensive systems of raising pigs; however for the majority of outdoor pork producers, issues of biosecurity and predation control require significant management and (or) capital investment. Identifying and quantifying predation risk in outdoor pork operations has rarely been done, but such data would be informative for these producers as part of the...

Coexistence of coyotes (Canis latrans) and red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) in an urban landscape

Urban environments are increasing worldwide and are inherently different than their rural counterparts, with a variety of effects on wildlife due to human presence, increased habitat fragmentation, movement barriers, and access to anthropogenic food sources. Effective management of urban wildlife requires an understanding of how urbanization affects their behavior and ecology. The spatial activ...

Relation between Intensity of Biocide Practice and Residues of Anticoagulant Rodenticides in Red Foxes (Vulpes vulpes)

Anticoagulant rodenticides (ARs) are commonly used to control rodent infestations for biocidal and plant protection purposes. This can lead to AR exposure of non-target small mammals and their predators, which is known from several regions of the world. However, drivers of exposure variation are usually not known. To identify environmental drivers of AR exposure in non-targets we analyzed 331 l...

A survey of intestinal helminths of red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) in northern Belgium

Between 1994 and 1999, 219 red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) were collected in northern Belgium and examined for intestinal helminths. The effects of host-related (age, sex, body mass/size ratio) and temporal factors on the prevalence and on the number of parasite species per individual host were investigated. The following parasites were found: cestodes Echinococcus multilocularis (1.8%), Dipylidium c...
